Dyeing for Antigone

For my second show at Hunter College, I worked more hands on with the costumes for Antigone by Sophocles. It was directed by Tia Alagic and designed by Jenny Fulton. I was assigned a project that involved dying fabric. I quickly gathered resources for research from books and YouTubed many tutorials to begin working tediously on several pieces for this project. Antigone was set in Afganistan, therefore the costumes had to resemble the attire used in the middle east. The costume designer asked me to give the costumes a look in which the clothing was washed over with desert sand. For this show, I learned the hot and cold dying process. It was a matter of sampling colors on muslin pieces, in order to achieve the right colors.
The Sentry's hat was dyed to a dark brown.
Tiresias'  clothing was created of muslin which was dyed to a yellowish brown.
Both hats were dyed with different levels of pearl grey.
The darker hat was dyed using a combination of pearl grey and black.
